|Mrs. Doris “Dot” Barnes
Doris Yvonne Goode Barnes was born on September 17, 1945, to the late Willie Demus and Virgie Whitfield Goode. She entered into eternal rest with the Lord on the 3rd of April, 2014.
Our mother worked for Sewell Plastic becoming the first woman machine mechanic for 28 years and a CMS school crossing guard for 20 years. Our mother was and will always be to us--a beautiful, sensuous, vibrant, honest, very opinionated, strong, funny, loving and loyal, virtuous woman. She had a passion to breakout in a song anywhere, at anytime. She was a true survivor and adjusted to any situation life sent her way, without complaining. She just continued to believe and trust in the Lord. In her life, she had many achievements, but her greatest was telling people about the Lord and caring for her family. Even after death she continued to give, by being an organ donor.
She was a devoted and active servant in the hymn choir at Christian Mission Baptist Church and participated in church events and programs for the youth and seniors. As a Gospel Music Workshop of America Charlotte Chapter member, she was proud of living her dream of singing in concerts, on CD's and traveling with the Chapter throughout the United States, when able. She was also active in promoting local gospel concerts and she loved "Madea" plays and movies.
She leaves to mourn and cherish her in memories---her childhood, life-long love and friend, Zebbie D. Barnes. She is preceded in death by five siblings,---Elizabeth Darden, Virdale Dortch, Rosa Lee Dancy, McCoy Goode, and Wilson Goode. She is survived by four other siblings,---Lillian Goode, Katherine Battle, Ella Goode, and Ruth Anderson. She is preceded in death by one daughter,---Anita Barnes Foxx Berry; one grandson--Kareem Berry; two great-grandchildren-Marissa Berry and Tyson Hughes. She is survived by four daughters,--Evelyn Givens, Bettie Harris(Randolph) of Stafford, VA, Adele Terry(Timothy), and Robin(Darryl); sixteen grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews and friends.
The family will greet friends from 12:00 Noon until 1:00 PM, Thursday, the 10th of April 2014 at Christian Mission Baptist Church, 2400 West Boulevard, Charlotte. A service to celebrate her life will be held at 1:00 PM in the sanctuary with The Reverend Donald Davis, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. Bearing the casket of Mrs. Barnes will be members of the family.
